about

Christian culture has a track record of copying what he sees out the church window, gutting it and passing it off as redeemed. We don't want to do that. But sometimes, something most folks wouldn't label "christian" does a good job of articulating what many of us are trying to say.

That said 2 years ago, we combined the lyrics of an old hymn of confession with the Mumfords and Sons song and it affected our home community as well as those on the road in remarkable ways.

Sometimes we don't feel the things we know we should. Sometimes it feels like we're sleeping on the inside, even though we're mouthing the best news we've ever heard. In those times, we cry out to God to awaken us.

C.S. Lewis said that our desires for things that harm us are not too strong, but our desires for god are too weak. That is what this song means to us. We want god to awaken us deeply, and remind us that He is worth waking for.

lyrics

We have not known thee as we ought
Nor learned thy wisdom grace and power
The things of this earth have filled our thoughts
And trifles of the passing hour

We have not love thee as we ought
Nor cared that we are loved by thee
Thy presence we have coldly sought
And feebly longed thy face to see

Hallelujah
Hallelujah

Awake my soul
Awake my soul

Give us faith to know thee near
And grant the grace of holy fear
Lord give the zeal and give the might
For thee to toil and thee to fight

Hallelujah
Hallelujah

In these bodies we will live in these bodies we will die
Where you invest your love you invest your life

Awake my soul
Awake my soul
Awake my soul
For you were meant to meet your maker

Awake my soul
Awake my soul
Awake my soul
For you were meant to meet your maker

You were meant to meet your maker
